The\u00a0FIATA\u00a0Bill of Lading serves as a Shipping contract and a proof that the goods have been carried with the use of more than one mode of transportation. It also determines the responsibility of the\u00a0freight\u00a0forwarder. When issued \u201cto\u00a0order\u201d, it is a title of the property of the goods so it can be negotiated. Unlike other Transport documents, the FBL does not identify any type of Transport as the\u00a0principal, so the responsibility falls on the forwarding\u00a0agent\u00a0which acts as a\u00a0carrier\u00a0from the\u00a0collection\u00a0till the\u00a0delivery\u00a0of the goods, including the involvement of any third party. The\u00a0forwarder\u00a0agent\u00a0identified as\u00a0Multimodal Transport\u00a0Operator (MTO), shall be authorized by\u00a0FIATA\u00a0for doing multimodal transportation.
