A\u00a0Carnet\u00a0or ATA Carnet (pronounced kar-nay) is an international customs and temporary export-import document. It is used to clear customs in\u00a087 countries and territories\u00a0without paying duties and import taxes on\u00a0merchandise\u00a0that will be re-exported within 12 months*.\u00a0 Carnets are also known as Merchandise Passports or Passports for Goods. ATA Carnets also serve as the U.S. Certificate of Registration of goods\u00a0(CBP 4455)\u00a0upon re-importation. There are two types of carnets issued: ATA and TECRO\/AIT.\u00a0TECRO\/AIT carnets\u00a0are used for temporary imports in Taiwan which only accepts the TECRO\/AIT carnet.\u00a0 ATA Carnets are used for the\u00a087 other countries and territories that are members of the carnet system. Most merchandise can be listed on a Carnet.
