An POD is a Proof of Delivery. The POD (Proof Of Delivery) is a significant part of the delivery process as it establishes that the package has been delivered to the recipient or consignee. The POD is a harcdopy evidence of delivery and as such it the official document where the customer confirms the receipt of the shipment. The Proof of delivery becomes very important when legal and financial documents are to be exchanged between two parties. The proof of delivery is the final delivery document that gets signed by the Consignee to confirm the Freight has been received and which is then shared with the Consignor to confirm that a shipment has been delivered. It should also contain the date and time of delivery and the name and title of the person who received the item and inspected the Freight bill. As it might take time to retrieve a POD, the POD is often requested in case of an expected or assumed dispute. Often an IOD is, initially, also sufficient.
